Pond
Information...
How do I work out what size of Pump or Filter I
need?
Pumps:
Two simple calculations will enable you to work out the
Flow Rate needed for your pond:
Firstly work out how
much water is in your pond - the Total Pond
Capacity - using the following calculation -
Max width x Max length x Max depth (in metres) x 1000 =
number of litres
i.e. (2 x 2 x 2 metres) x
1000 = 8000 - therefore there are 8000 litres of water in that
pond

You should now have
the Total Pond Capacity from the above
calculation.
Then just one
further calculation is needed depending on what your pond
contains other than the water -

small
fish
|
koi / large
fish
|
lots of
plants

Pond Capacity / 2

i.e. 8000 / 2
= 4000 litres per hour flow rate |

66.66% of Total Pond
Capacity
= Total
Pond Capacity x 66.66 then / 100
|
i.e. 8000 x
66.66 = 533280 / 100
= 5333 litres per hour flow rate |

Filters:
Bio-Filters should
be matched to next largest capacity - i.e. if the total pond
capacity is 8000 litres then a 10000 litre filter will be
suitable
NOTE:
the above is a general guide but it is always better to have more
flow rate and filtration than not enough.
